Our dogs mean a lot to us – and sometimes they cost a lot. Especially if after an elaborate treatment or operation suddenly a four -digit veterinary bill flutters into the house. One of the most expensive interventions in the fur noses is the cruciate ligament tear, which usually costs at least 1,600 euros. Tumor operations can also quickly cost 1,000 euros or more. In order to protect themselves from such financial burdens, dog owners can take out insurance for their darling. There are various options:
Costs at a glance: why dog surgery insurance makes sense
There are various options here: Pure dog surgery insurance only covers the costs for surgical interventions and is significantly cheaper than more comprehensive health insurance, which also covers routine treatments such as vaccinations or preventive examinations.
Important: Usually only healthy animals can be insured. Therefore, it is worth thinking about suitable protection at an early stage. The amount of the contribution depends, among other things, on the breed, the age and size of the dog.
Good to know: According to the consumer advice center, full health insurance costs about three times a pure surgical insurance. However, it is up to each dog owner whether you choose such protection or bear the risk in the event of an event.

Dog owner liability insurance: Why it is essential
With dog owner liability insurance, things look a little different. It covers damage caused by the four-legged friend in third parties- be it personal, property or financial loss. Without such insurance, it can quickly become very expensive for the dog owner. If, for example, the dog bite a walker, the owner liability with all private assets, without the upper limit. Damage such as scratched cars or damaged parquet floors can cause high costs. In the event of a loss of earnings and compensation for pain and suffering from injured people, in the event of a matter of worst, the millions can even go into the millions.
In some regions, all dog owners have to take out this insurance, while in others it is only necessary for certain breeds that are classified as dangerous.
Incidentally, in the event of damage, it does not matter whether the owner affects or not – it can be held accountable. As soon as your dog causes damage to another person, you are responsible for it, regardless of whether you could have prevented the incident or not.

Dog insurance in comparison
If you are looking for a reliable provider of dog owner liability insurance, dog surgery insurance or full health insurance with an advantageous price-performance ratio, you have to compare countless tariffs-your head can sometimes buzzing for sheer numbers and insurance law terms. Despite hours of research, the most important question often remains unanswered: Which insurance companies and which tariffs are really worth it?
As part of a large -scale, independent analysis, numerous contractual conditions were compared. The basis for the study formed information on services, conditions and costs that were expanded to include the results of a reader survey.
Methodology of the study: This is how dog insurance was assessed
In order to be able to compare the individual insurance offers better, a fictional sample bone is assumed. In the case of liability insurance, a pre -selection was made and, as far as possible, tariffs were chosen without a deductible. The sum insured amounts to at least 10 million euros. In the case of surgical and health insurance, wherever it was possible, tariffs without a deductible were predicted. The insurance sum, the coverage of rental damage, the involvement of a claim default cover and the scope of insurance played a role, among other things. In addition, the co -insurance of puppies and the performance of cover damage was taken into account.
Performance assessment of dog insurance
In order to be able to objectively assess the services of the surgery and health insurance, among other things, the maximum annual performance and the GOT refundorge were analyzed. In addition, any follow-up treatments, the supply of medication and accommodation in an veterinary clinic, the diagnostic scope and the possibility of a free veterinary and clinic choice were taken into account. In addition, the scope of insurance abroad was included. In addition to the range of services, general aspects such as the minimum term, the offer of immediate protection or the length of the waiting times as well as the notice periods were checked. The costs were rated as third parameters in the analysis.
And so the result came about: After all the data were collected and evaluated, an overall score was calculated. This resulted from the ratings of the four partial aspects of services, general conditions, costs and reader evaluation. All companies that cut better than the overall mean value are now given to the “Recommendation” award. Finally, 14 tariffs made it to the recommendation list of dog surgery. 18 tariffs could qualify for a recommendation in full health insurance for dogs.
