A family discovers the Hispanic origins of their dog when they see him react to a conversation in the street (video)

Honey was adopted from the shelter Humane Societylocated at San Diego (UNITED STATES), after a rescue at Mexico. Apart from other dogs, Honey was chosen by Michele who understood that she was dealing with a friendly canine. The latter returned the favor by snuggling up against her during their first meeting. She confides to Newsweek : “I sat down on the floor to get on her level, and she leaned her head directly into my heart. At that moment I knew I couldn't leave without her.”.

Before its adoption, Honey suffered from severe anemia, caused by his sterilization. She arrived exhausted, but happy, at her new mistress.

A bilingual dog

It was during a walk that the dog's attention was caught by a couple who spoke in Spanish. Honey grew excited, and tried to forge a connection with those she perceived as interlocutors. Michele understood that something important was at stake and decided to delve deeper.

“She immediately listened”

When returning home, Michele tried to give the dog some commands in Spanish. To his greatest surprise, the dog immediately complied, sitting down in response to the “sientate”. Michele testifies: “It was the first time I tried commands in Spanish and she listened immediately”. Honey was congratulated for these successful exercises.

A boost for the relationship

Michele made the connection with the rescue of his dog at Mexicoand his past in a family which could have instilled in him some educational notions. Seeing what clicked before her eyes, the owner decided to go back to Spanish, a language she had learned in a bilingual school in San Diego being younger.

The story ofHoney proves to us that dogs are capable of distinguishing several languages and mastering their meaning. In reality, they perceive the sounds different, and then it is the repetition that anchors the terms.
